On the shores of Mnidoo Gamii, there is a movement underway to connect people with the waters of the world's largest freshwater archipelago.
That's why the Georgian Bay Mnidoo Gamii Biosphere created the State of the Bay, a collection of stories that weave local traditional teachings, cutting-edge environmental science, and community action that are told by and for the people that call this place home.
Originally a beautiful coffee table magazine, we took 3 key stories and dug deeper into who needed to hear these messages of local ingenuity and how we would reach them. The result was 3 mini-documentary films that catered to local youth looking to understand how they could build a life protecting their home. Like the magazine, these stories carefully weave Western and traditional science, land-based learning, and community building through the eyes of 3 local, young leaders who are using teachings from their home on Mnidoo Gamii to make an impact locally and abroad.
